SEN Teaching Assistant – Lewisham – Immediate Start

Are you a compassionate and resilient individual with a passion for supporting children with complex needs? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic primary special needs setting in Lewisham, working with pupils aged 4-11 with a range of profound and severe learning difficulties.

This is a rewarding full-time role supporting students with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) and SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) – ideal for someone with experience in complex needs education or care.


About the Role – SEN Teaching Assistant

In this role, you will:

  • Support pupils across EYFS and primary stages with a variety of complex needs.

  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to assist with learning, communication, and personal care routines.

  • Help deliver a multi-sensory and highly individualised curriculum alongside teachers and therapists.

  • Assist with mobility, feeding, and medical routines where required (full training provided).

  • Use tools such as Makaton, PECS, switches, and other assistive communication devices (experience desirable but not essential).

  • Contribute to a positive, safe, and nurturing classroom environment that supports holistic development.


What We’re Looking For:

We welcome applications from candidates who are:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people with PMLD, SLD, or complex medical needs.

  • Passionate about supporting non-verbal pupils, sensory learners, and those with high dependency needs.

  • Calm, patient, and reliable, with a proactive approach to learning support.

  • Comfortable providing personal care and supporting pupils with dignity and respect.

  • Experience in special schools or SEN units is desirable, but we also welcome applicants with relevant care, therapy or youth work backgrounds.
