Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant – West Drayton

SENDhelp is recruiting a Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant for a secondary SEMH school in West Drayton, supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Experience working with challenging behaviour is essential, whether gained supporting adults or children. Your background could include a similar school, youth club, rehabilitation service, residential care or another relevant support setting.

This role would suit someone resilient, calm under pressure and committed to helping young people move forward. Progress can take time, and difficult days are part of the role. Building trust, maintaining clear boundaries and recognising small achievements will be central to your work.

About the role

As a Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will help pupils engage with learning and develop the confidence and skills to manage difficult situations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils in lessons and throughout the school day.

• Building positive, professional relationships with young people who may find it difficult to trust adults.

• Responding calmly to challenging behaviour and using de-escalation strategies.

• Reinforcing clear, consistent boundaries in line with the school’s behaviour approach.

• Helping pupils recognise their emotions and develop ways to manage them.

• Working closely with teaching and support staff to share observations and maintain a consistent approach.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Previous school experience is welcome, but it is not essential if you can demonstrate relevant behaviour support experience from another setting.
