About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive specialist education setting in Tower Hamlets. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment.

The school is a specialist setting that supports children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including autism, communication difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups

  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Supporting pupils with personal care where required

  • Implementing individual support plans and strategies

  • Promoting inclusion, engagement, and social development

  • Ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing remain a priority at all times


Transferable Skills We’re Looking For

  • Patience, empathy, and emotional resilience

  • Strong communication and listening skills

  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations

  • Teamwork and adaptability

  • Confidence working with children or vulnerable individuals

  • A proactive and positive attitude


Transferable Industries & Backgrounds

Experience from the following sectors is highly valued:

  • Care and support work

  • Youth work

  • Early years or childcare

  • Mental health support

  • Sports coaching

  • Social care

  • Psychology or education studies

  • Residential or community support roles


Experience Required

  • Previous experience working with children or vulnerable individuals (professional or voluntary)

  • An understanding of SEND or a strong willingness to learn

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

  • Relevant training or qualifications are desirable but not essential
