Your Role as a SEND Class Teacher
As a SEND Class Teacher, you’ll lead a specialist class and work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists and other professionals to provide engaging and meaningful learning opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering highly differentiated lessons based on pupils’ individual learning and developmental needs.

Creating personalised learning opportunities linked to EHCP outcomes and individual targets.

Teaching pupils with SLD, PMLD, autism and complex social communication needs.

Using appropriate communication strategies to enable every pupil to participate, interact and make choices.

Developing pupils’ communication, independence, engagement and personal and social skills.
-
Incorporating sensory, practical and play-based approaches into teaching where appropriate.

Creating a structured, nurturing and stimulating classroom environment.

Leading, supporting and effectively deploying SEND Teaching Assistants within your classroom.

Assessing individual progress and adapting teaching approaches accordingly.

Working collaboratively with therapists, families and other professionals.

Supporting pupils with complex medical and care needs alongside appropriately trained colleagues.

Maintaining consistently high standards of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
What We’re Looking For
For this SEND Class Teacher position in Reigate, we’re looking for a teacher who understands that progress within specialist education can look different for every child.
You should:

Hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification.

Have experience teaching or supporting pupils with SEND.

Be confident adapting the curriculum for pupils working at different developmental levels.

Understand personalised learning and how to work towards individual EHCP outcomes.
-
Be able to effectively lead and develop a classroom support team.

Have excellent communication and collaborative working skills.
-
Be creative, patient, resilient and adaptable.
-
Be passionate about helping children develop communication, independence and confidence.
Experience supporting pupils with SLD, PMLD, autism, sensory needs, complex needs or social communication difficulties would be particularly beneficial.
