Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant looking for a rewarding role within a supportive special needs school in Walthamstow?
SENDhelp is recruiting a confident, patient and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Walthamstow, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.
The school is looking for someone who already has experience supporting children or young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.

The Learning Support Assistant Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support professionals to provide a safe, structured and positive learning environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1, small-group and classroom support to pupils with additional needs.
- Supporting children and young people with ASD and SEMH needs.
- Confidently supporting pupils who may display challenging or distressed behaviour.
- Using positive behaviour strategies to help pupils regulate their emotions and remain engaged in learning.
- Building strong, trusting and professional relationships with pupils.
- Supporting pupils with their communication, social interaction, independence and emotional development.
- Following individual support plans, EHCPs and behaviour strategies.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and the wider SEND team.
- Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare.
What We Are Looking For
The successful Learning Support Assistant in Walthamstow will ideally have previous experience within a special school, SEND provision, mainstream school, care setting, residential service, youth work or another relevant support environment.
You will need to be patient, resilient, reliable and confident, with the ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young adults with SEND.
- Experience with ASD, SEMH and challenging behaviour.
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to complete the required DBS process.
- Two satisfactory references covering the last two years.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Availability to start as soon as possible.
