SEND Teaching Assistant – Southall

SENDhelp is recruiting a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Southall. This role involves supporting pupils from Reception to Year 6 with additional needs including autism (ASD), ADHD and related learning or behavioural needs.

The school is seeking someone with practical experience gained in a UK school or another formal SEND setting. Experience across the primary age range is welcomed, including Early Years experience.

• Location: Southall

• Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm

• Working pattern: Monday to Friday

• Setting: Primary school, Reception to Year 6

• Pupil needs may include ASD, ADHD and other special educational needs

• Experience supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD) is welcomed but not essential

The role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide consistent classroom and individual support to help pupils access learning, develop independence and manage the school day successfully.

Depending on the needs of the class, you may work with individual pupils, small groups or alongside the class teacher to support learning across the curriculum.

What you will be doing

• Supporting pupils with SEND during lessons and structured activities

• Helping pupils remain engaged, settled and ready to learn

• Adapting tasks and resources under the direction of the class teacher

• Encouraging communication, confidence and independence

• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour

• Following individual support plans and agreed classroom strategies

• Recording observations and sharing relevant information with teaching staff

• Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other support professionals

• Helping to maintain a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment

Essential requirements

Applicants must have:

• Previous work experience in a UK school or a formal SEND setting

• Experience supporting children within the Reception to Year 6 age range, with Early Years experience also accepted

• A reliable and consistent approach to full-time work

• Strong communication skills and the ability to follow support plans

• Patience, resilience and a calm approach when supporting pupils with additional needs

• A willingness to work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff

Personal experience of supporting someone with SEND is a bonus, but it cannot replace the required professional or formal work experience.

Desirable experience

The following experience would be beneficial but is not essential:

• Supporting pupils with autism or ADHD

• Working with children who need help with emotional regulation

• Experience with severe learning difficulties

• Delivering one-to-one or small-group interventions

• Using visual timetables, communication tools or structured routines
