SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Slough
Pay: £93-£104 per day, PAYE
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Start date: September 2026
Contract: Long-term, with potential for a permanent position
SENDhelp is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant for an established specialist school in Slough supporting pupils aged 5-19.
This is a full-time opportunity for someone with professional experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs. The school can place successful candidates within primary, secondary or post-16 classes according to their experience and strengths.
The role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers, therapists and other support staff to help pupils access education, communicate effectively and develop greater independence.
The school supports pupils with needs that may include:
- Autism and communication needs
- Moderate and severe learning difficulties
- Profound and multiple learning difficulties
- Sensory and physical needs
- Behaviours that may challenge
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support
- Helping pupils participate in lessons and structured activities
- Using visual resources, communication aids and sensory strategies
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Following EHCP targets and individual support plans
- Encouraging communication, independence and social development
- Supporting personal care and mobility where required
- Maintaining a calm, safe and structured learning environment
Essential requirements
Applicants must have:
- Professional UK experience supporting children or young people with SEN
- Confidence supporting different communication and learning needs
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- The resilience to manage behaviour that may challenge
- The ability to travel reliably to Slough five days per week
- A commitment to safeguarding children and young people
Experience may have been gained within a specialist school, mainstream school, alternative provision, residential setting or another formal support environment.
Previous UK school experience is strongly preferred. However, candidates with substantial relevant experience from another professional setting may also be considered.
Experience supporting autism, MLD, SLD, PMLD, non-verbal pupils, sensory needs or challenging behaviour would be particularly valuable.
