- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

You will be joining an established and highly supportive staff team with approachable management, where Teaching Assistants, teachers and other professionals work closely together.
The SEND Teaching Assistant Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play an important part in supporting pupils to access education, develop their independence and achieve their individual goals.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1, small-group and classroom-based support.
- Supporting pupils with ASD, MLD, SLD, SEMH and challenging behaviour.
- Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with pupils.
- Supporting children with communication, emotional regulation and social development.
- Helping pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.
- Using positive behaviour-management and de-escalation strategies where appropriate.
- Supporting pupils with their individual learning plans and EHCP targets.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and other members of the wider SEND team.
- Maintaining a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Supporting pupils to develop their confidence, independence and life skills.
Who We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates who have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly ASD, MLD, SLD, SEMH or challenging behaviour.
You should be patient, resilient, compassionate and confident, with the ability to remain calm when supporting pupils who may communicate their needs through behaviour.
Experience within a special school is highly desirable; however, relevant experience from care, residential support, youth work, support work, mental health services or other SEND environments may also be considered.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Successful candidates will need to:
- Hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain a new Enhanced DBS.
- Provide suitable references covering the previous two years.
- Complete all required safeguarding and compliance checks before starting work.
