We are currently looking for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support a pupil on a 1:1 basis at a thriving and well-run mainstream primary school in Hemel Hempstead.
The pupil you will be supporting on a 1:1 basis is in Year 1 and has an EHCP. Their most prevalent need outlined in their EHCP is Autism / ASD – you will need to have had experience in supporting a child with Autism in order to be successful in this position. The child in question doesn’t tend to follow the same curriculum as their peers and on the most part, requires autonomy throughout the school day. As their 1:1 TA, you will need to be adaptable to facilitate this but also work in line with the EHCP’s targets to encourage engagement and to help the child to develop, grow and achieve.
Starting immediately, this role is an ongoing supply position to cover a permanent member of staff that has gone off sick, there is however the possibility that this role could become longer term or that the school may consider offering you a permanent role, based on your success. We can assure that you will be well supported by SENDhelp and the school when taking this position – we have a handover from the previous member of staff ready and also there is a HLTA in place to support you with this child where necessary.

Inclusion is key in this role, as this pupil has SEND needs but is in a Mainstream setting, your job will be to encourage maximum inclusion so that the child interacts with their peers/classmates as frequently as possible. This is quite a niche role and understanding the curriculum would be helpful when supporting this child with his targets – which of course the school would be looking to share with you if you start with them!
