Pupils may have moderate learning difficulties (MLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism and other complex needs. Every pupil has an EHCP, and learning is highly personalised around individual needs, abilities and aspirations.

Your Role as a SEND Teaching Assistant in Windsor and Maidenhead
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll work as part of a highly supportive classroom team, providing individualised support to pupils aged 2-19 and helping them access learning in a way that works for them.
Depending on your experience and the needs of the specialist setting in Windsor and Maidenhead, you may work with younger children in Early Years and Primary, secondary-aged pupils or young people preparing for adulthood.
Your responsibilities will include:

Providing 1:1, small-group and whole-class support.

Supporting children and young people aged 2-19 with MLD, SLD, PMLD, autism and complex additional needs.

Helping deliver highly differentiated and personalised learning activities.

Supporting pupils to work towards individual EHCP outcomes.

Encouraging communication, independence, social interaction and emotional development.

Supporting sensory, practical and age-appropriate learning activities.

Helping pupils develop skills they can use in everyday life and as they prepare for adulthood.

Using positive behaviour strategies to create a calm and supportive learning environment.

Working closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals.

Supporting pupils with physical and personal care needs where required and appropriately trained.

Celebrating progress – whether that’s an academic achievement, a new communication skill or an important step towards greater independence.
What We’re Looking For
For this SEND Teaching Assistant role in Windsor and Maidenhead, we’re looking for someone who is patient, compassionate and motivated by helping children and young people achieve their potential.
Ideally, you will:

Have experience supporting children, young people or adults with additional needs.

Have experience with autism, MLD, SLD, PMLD or complex needs.

Be comfortable working with pupils who require significant individual support.

Be willing to support personal care and physical needs where required.

Be calm and confident when responding to behaviours that may challenge.

Have strong communication and teamwork skills.

Be proactive, reliable and adaptable.

Be able to adapt your approach to the age, developmental level and individual needs of each pupil.
Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. We also welcome candidates in and around Windsor and Maidenhead with relevant backgrounds in care, healthcare, support work, youth work or other roles supporting people with additional needs.
